A REMINDER FOR THE PUBLIC. Mushroom poisoning

Only 400 species of the existing more than 3 thousand varieties of cap mushrooms are edible. The rest are dangerous. Several types of them are permanently poisonous, others become poisonous under certain conditions: raw consumption, co-consumption with alcohol, improper processing, and so on.

Symptoms of mushroom poisoning

On average, symptoms appear 1-2 hours after consumption. This period of well-being, depending on the type of mushrooms eaten, the type of processing, alcohol consumption, body weight, age, and the dose of the toxin obtained, can be reduced to 30 minutes or extended to 6-7 hours (pale toadstool) or even up to 2-3 weeks (spider web and lepiota). Typical are: diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain.

The child's body is more sensitive to the action of toxins, so the symptoms of mushroom poisoning in children appear faster, poisoning is more severe.

A special danger of mushroom poisoning is during pregnancy, since poisons can penetrate through the placenta and have an effect on the child. There is a threat of miscarriage.

Action " Give me life!»

The Foundation for Social and Cultural Initiatives, whose president is Svetlana Medvedeva, annually conducts an information and educational campaign "Give me life!"in the cities and regions of Russia. It is aimed not only at preventing abortions, but also at preserving family values and traditions. The campaign is closely connected with the holiday "Day of Family, Love and Loyalty" and is held during the week from 9 to 15 July.

Since 1989, the annual number of abortions in Russia has been steadily declining, and in 2007 (for the first time since 1959), the number of newborns in our country exceeded the number of aborted pregnancies. According to 2011 data, for every abortion performed in Russia, there are two children born. Nevertheless, our country still occupies one of the leading places in the sad ranking of countries with a high abortion rate, as well as Estonia, Latvia and Belarus. This cannot but cause alarm and concern. It is important not to prohibit abortion by law, but to make the birth of a child desirable.

Prevention of abortions is carried out not only by state medical institutions. In the cities and regions of Russia, there are public organizations whose activities are aimed at fighting against abortion. The Russian Orthodox Church and other confessions pay great attention to this problem.
