A REMINDER FOR THE PUBLIC. Mushroom poisoning

29.09.2017

Only 400 species of the existing more than 3 thousand varieties of cap mushrooms are edible. The rest are dangerous. Several types of them are permanently poisonous, others become poisonous under certain conditions: raw consumption, co-consumption with alcohol, improper processing, and so on.

Symptoms of mushroom poisoning

On average, symptoms appear 1-2 hours after consumption. This period of well-being, depending on the type of mushrooms eaten, the type of processing, alcohol consumption, body weight, age, and the dose of the toxin obtained, can be reduced to 30 minutes or extended to 6-7 hours (pale toadstool) or even up to 2-3 weeks (spider web and lepiota). Typical are: diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain.

The child's body is more sensitive to the action of toxins, so the symptoms of mushroom poisoning in children appear faster, poisoning is more severe.

A special danger of mushroom poisoning is during pregnancy, since poisons can penetrate through the placenta and have an effect on the child. There is a threat of miscarriage.

When the first signs of poisoning appear, an ambulance should be called without delay. Before the arrival of the doctor, it is necessary to start providing assistance to the victim.

First aid for mushroom poisoning consists of the following measures.

  1. Rinse the stomach using at least 1.5 liters of water. You can provoke vomiting by pressing a spoon on the root of the tongue. Do not induce vomiting in pregnant women.
  2. Allow to take any of the sorbents ("Activated carbon", "Polysorb MP" and others).
  3. Provide a plentiful drink: mineral (without gas) water, black strong tea.
  4. Put the victim to bed. Put a warm hot water bottle at your feet.

How not to get poisoned by mushrooms? This requires strict compliance with certain rules.

  1. You should only take known mushrooms. At the slightest doubt, the mushroom should be thrown out, not allowing its joint stay with the already collected party.
  2. You can not collect old, wormy mushrooms.
  3. Do not taste them raw.
  4. Carefully examine each mushroom, paying attention to the color of the cap, the sponge, the presence and color of the plates, the stem and the presence of a ring on it.
  5. You need to collect it in the basket, not in the package.
  6. You can not collect at roads and businesses.
  7. Do not store for a long time, cook immediately.
  8. Any mushrooms before cooking, be sure to boil and pour out the broth.
  9. Do not cook canned mushrooms at home.
  10. Do not leave children unattended in the forest.

The main cause of mushroom poisoning is ignorance of their distinctive features, disregard for the rules of prevention and carelessness. Mushroom poisons, affecting all organ systems, can lead to death in 2-3 days.

The body itself is not able to neutralize mushroom poisons. Only timely full-fledged treatment gives a chance to save the patient.
