Sun exposure and skin cancer

22.07.2019

A mandatory attribute of summer is a beautiful tan. Many people spend hours on the beach or go to the solarium for it, buying all sorts of cosmetics for an even golden skin tone. In fact, the sun is extremely important for our health, as well as for all living beings on the planet. If for a long time a person does not come into contact with the sun's rays, the production of vitamin D in his body will be reduced, the phosphorus-calcium metabolism will be disrupted, the work of the immune system will deteriorate, as well as performance in general.

At the same time, an overabundance of contact with the rays of this insidious star is fraught with bad consequences. What is interesting – in the case of a long stay in direct sunlight, exactly the same symptoms are observed as with a lack of ultraviolet light. In addition, skin that has often been exposed to direct sunlight ages quickly. And most importantly, and perhaps the most terrible thing-this increases the risk of skin cancer and, in particular, melanoma.

By the way, skin cancer is one of the forms of cancer, the cause of which is well known, and it is also clear how to avoid this disease: it is enough to limit the time spent in the sun. Despite this, the number of patients with skin cancer is constantly growing.

People who live in areas where there is not much sunlight go on vacation to hot countries and try to "catch up" by lying on the beach all day long. As a result, they get a strong ultraviolet shock, which can cause melanoma and skin cancer. But those who are in the sun all year round, have a fairly "hardened" body, so they are not so afraid of ultraviolet light. Most of all, ultraviolet light is dangerous for children: sunburn at such a young age dramatically increases the risk of skin cancer in the future.

But this, of course, does not mean that people living in countries where the hot sun pleases infrequently, you can not go to warm countries and sunbathe. You just need to take a reasonable approach to the tanning process and follow a number of rules:

  • It is necessary to gradually increase the dose of sunlight, starting from 10 minutes, but not exceeding 40 minutes.
  • Stay in the sun at a safe time: three hours before noon or three hours later.
  • You need to sunbathe some time after eating. And it is also not recommended to sunbathe hungry.
  • Use only high-quality sunscreens, the protection index of which exceeds SPF-15, and it is best to protect the skin with light cotton fabrics. In addition, it is worth considering that the cream does not protect you completely, so it is necessary to limit your exposure to the sun in any case.
  • Protect pigmented spots and other skin formations on the body from direct sunlight. They can degenerate into cancerous tumors.
  • Wear sunglasses that trap UV radiation.

By following these rules, you can protect yourself from the risk of skin cancer, but do not completely deprive yourself of taking the long-awaited sun baths.
