Breastfeeding vs formula

13.04.2018

Man is the most intelligent being on our planet, but in the way of development, many mammals are very similar to us. At least by the fact that at the beginning of their development, they, like us, feed their babies with mother's milk. But human progress does not stand still, and if earlier the child was fed cow's milk, if the mother for some reason could not breastfeed the child, now scientists have invented special mixtures that are partially similar to the mother's milk. They do not contain any antibodies, live cells, and parts of fat and hormonal components. Such mixtures contain proteins, iron, manganese and salts in much larger quantities than what the baby eats when breastfeeding. So let's see if it is possible to replace the mother's milk and completely switch to artificial formula feeding.

To begin with, let's outline a few points:

  • Pre-feeding is considered to be feeding the child with artificial mixtures in addition to the mother's milk or its replacement.
  • After that, there is already a bait. At this point, some foods are added to the baby's diet, such as vegetable purees, various cereals and cottage cheese.
  • When the child is still a little older, he is given vitamin subsidies. These are various juices and fruit purees.

The child begins to receive additional food for completely different reasons. This is not necessarily simply due to the unwillingness of the mother to feed her child with breast milk, often such nutrition is prescribed at those moments when natural feeding is impossible, or does not fully meet the needs of the baby. The moments when it is necessary for medical reasons to transfer the child to artificial feeding are usually associated with some infectious diseases, such as HIV or the detection of staphylococcus. If so recommended by doctors, is it possible to just immediately transfer the child to a mixed diet?

Unfortunately or fortunately, but this can not be done. It just so happens that nature can not be deceived, and even despite the fact that many babies normally take mixtures and adapt to them, however, this does not mean that this type of feeding will not negatively affect the child in the future. So, for example, children who eat artificial mixtures in childhood usually have 20% more weight than their peers who consumed only their mother's milk. It seems that there is something in this, but if you think in more detail, it turns out that weight gain leads to an additional load on the already weak cardiovascular system, which can later lead to pathologies associated with the heart, or even to a heart attack at an early age.

As you can see, artificial feeding of the baby should be a purely last resort, designed to protect the child more from a possible threat, and not to indulge the laziness or unwillingness of some mothers to breastfeed their child. The use of mixtures should be considered and have a medical basis
