West Nile fever is dangerous!

15.07.2021

West Nile fever is an acute viral natural focal disease that occurs in both mild and severe forms. The prevalence is almost universal, since the disease has been registered on all continents, but with different intensity. Seasonality is caused by the activity of mosquito vectors and lasts until the beginning of the first cold weather.

With a severe course of the disease, characteristic clinical symptoms manifest themselves in the form of a sharp increase in temperature to 38-39 degrees, chills, headache (most often in the forehead), vomiting, pain in the muscles and joints (especially noticeable in the neck and lower back) and severe intoxication.

Diagnosis of West Nile Fever is based primarily on epidemic data – they consider a person's stay in endemic areas and collect anamnesis about mosquito bites, trips out of town, the presence of housing near open reservoirs.

There is no specific antiviral drug and vaccine for LDL. The treatment is symptomatic. Complications are observed mainly from the central and peripheral nervous system.

The main preventive measures to prevent the disease of LZN are:

  • carrying out measures aimed at reducing the number of mosquitoes (processing of territories adjacent to suburban recreation centers);
  • elimination of all unauthorized landfills, timely removal of solid household waste, mowing of weed vegetation;
  • protection of residential and public premises from the arrival of mosquitoes by marking window and door openings, use fumigators in the premises;
  • elimination of leaks in the basements of residential buildings and carrying out disinsection treatments;
  • elimination of pits and grooves on land plots where mosquitoes can hatch in standing water;
  • at least 1 time a week, replacing water in containers for its storage in dachas and in the private sector, preventing the reproduction of mosquitoes;
  • the use of personal protective equipment against mosquitoes (repellents) when traveling to recreation centers and suburban areas.

REMEMBER! FOLLOWING THESE PRECAUTIONS WILL HELP YOU PROTECT YOURSELF FROM WEST NILE FEVER!
