About yellow fever prevention
Currently, yellow fever remains the only disease that requires vaccination when entering countries where there is a risk of contracting this disease.
In recent years, there has been an increase in natural foci of yellow fever in endemic areas. In Africa, South and Central America, outbreaks and sporadic cases of the disease are recorded annually in individual countries.
Yellow fever is a vector-borne disease carried by mosquitoes. The disease exists in two epidemiological forms: jungle fever (transmitted by mosquitoes from infected monkeys) and locality fever (transmitted by mosquitoes from person to person). The latter causes most outbreaks and epidemics.
Preventive vaccination against yellow fever for people traveling to countries endemic to this infection is the only and most reliable means of preventing the disease.
Yellow fever vaccines provide protection against infection after 10 days after vaccination and stable lifelong immunity after a single vaccination.
Adults and children from the age of 9 months are subject to vaccination. Persons who have been vaccinated receive an international certificate of vaccination or prevention.
In cases where there are contraindications to vaccination, the clinician should state the reason for the medical withdrawal in English or French.
The vaccination certificates must be completed in full in English or French, and in addition in Russian. The certificate must be stamped with the stamp of the institution where the procedure was performed. Vaccination certificates are considered an individual document.
Every year, WHO publishes a list of countries where there is a risk of yellow fever transmission, as well as a list of countries that require an international vaccination certificate for travelers to enter.
Persons traveling without a certificate of vaccination against VD may be subject to quarantine for the incubation period (six days), medical examination or other preventive measures, up to the refusal of entry into the country.
Transit passengers who are at the airport for more than 12 hours, where there is a risk of transmission of YD, also need to have information about the vaccination. In addition, a number of countries require a certificate of vaccination against YF for passengers who have transited through an airport located in the territory of the country with a risk of yellow fever transmission, regardless of the time of transit.
Each State independently determines yellow fever vaccination centers on its territory to ensure the quality and safety of the drugs and procedures used.
Currently, there are yellow fever vaccination centers in 49 regions of the Russian Federation. The list of VD vaccination centers is published annually on the official website of Rospotrebnadzor. In the Lipetsk region, you can get vaccinated in the Immunoprophylaxis department of the Lipetsk Regional Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital (37-A Kosmonavtov Str., Lipetsk).
