Specialists of GUZ "Lipetsk Regional Blood Transfusion Station" introduce modern technologies for the production of anticovid plasma.
In the first days of the new year, the Lipetsk Regional Blood Transfusion Station began active work on examination and production of anticovid plasma from donors who have had a new coronavirus infection. Every day the number of people willing to donate immune plasma is increasing. At the moment, 25 donors of anticovid plasma have already become human.
"We collect the plasma of these donors by automatic apheresis. After that, the donor blood is examined for all hemocontact infections, the virus is inactivated, and transmitted to medical organizations" - says the chief freelance transfusiologist of the Health Department of the Lipetsk region Ilina I. V.
The plasma of recovered people contains antibodies to COVID-19, which, when administered to the patient, help the body fight the virus and have a therapeutic effect along with the therapy. However, for anticovid plasma transfusion there are strict indications: this is done only as prescribed by a doctor and under the careful supervision of specialists.
The obtained anti-covid plasma will be used in the future for the treatment of patients with severe COVID-19 b coronavirus hospitals.
Currently, the Lipetsk Regional Blood Transfusion Station provides medical organizations in the region with all the necessary blood components – erythrocyte-containing media, quarantined plasma, concentrates platelets, cryoprecipitate, and blood preparation - albumin. The facility has a sufficient supply of all components blood, and only thromboconcentrate is prepared exclusively at the request of medical organizations due to the short term storage.
"We are talking about complex therapy. We are not saying that this is a panacea. These are passive antibodies, their concentration is special, which is introduced and helps a person to fight a coronavirus infection" - said the head doctor Lipetsk Regional Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital Filatov A. N.
In 2020, the specialists of GUZ "Lipetsk Regional Blood Transfusion Station" prepared more than 34,000 liters of whole blood (including in field conditions), more than 13,000 liters of plasma (including by automatic method plasmapheresis), and 548 hardware platelet transfereses were performed to obtain platelets.
In addition, the medical institution actively interacts with leading medical centers on donation issues bone marrow. In 2020, 15 donors of the Lipetsk Region joined the Federal Register of Potential Bone Marrow Donors the brain.
In total, 7,204 Honorary donors live on the territory of the Lipetsk region, only last year Honorary donors Russia became 384 people.
In 2020, the Lipetsk regional blood transfusion station began implementing "lean technologies": the institution has an administrator's post, a comfortable waiting area for donors is organized, and on each floor there are installed TV sets for showing thematic videos.
