Prevention of seasonal allergies
Spring-summer is the flowering season, which means that it is a difficult time for those who are prone to allergic reactions to plant pollen.
During this period, the source of such an allergy (otherwise called pollinosis) is the components of plants released during their active growth and flowering.
Each region has its own calendar of pollination (flowering) of plants, which depends on the climatic and geographical features. For the central part of Russia, there are three main periods of flowering of allergenic plants: spring (April-May) – associated with the dusting of trees; early summer (June – mid – July) – associated with the flowering of cereals or meadow grasses; late summer – autumn (mid-July-September) - with the flowering of weeds.
Most often, pollinosis manifests itself in the form of nasal congestion, sneezing, itching in the eyes, nasopharynx, lacrimation. There may also be manifestations in the form of difficulty breathing, coughing.
To determine whether these complaints are allergic and to determine the cause of the allergy, it is necessary to consult an allergist and then pass the appropriate tests. After that, the doctor will prescribe complex therapy. But the patient can also take some measures to prevent allergies:
- More often carry out wet cleaning at home, use devices for air purification, an air humidifier.
- Wash street clothes more often.
- At the time of flowering, close the windows and doors tightly, use blackout curtains, air conditioning.
- After being outside, wash your face, eyes, nose, and throat with water. Wash your hands regularly.
- Rinse your nose with preparations for moisturizing, cleansing and protecting the nasal mucosa containing isotonic saline solution, including preparations based on sea water.
- Wear glasses and masks on the street. You can use nose filters.
- Always have on hand the allergy medications recommended by your doctor.
