Preservation of men's reproductive health

02.03.2023

Reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being in all areas related to the reproductive system, including reproduction of offspring and harmony in the psychosocial relationships of the family.

The biological goal of mankind is reproduction, procreation. The problems of reproductive health of the population, especially adolescents and young people, in Russia in modern conditions acquire special social significance. By 2025, the reproductive potential of Russia may be at the "point of no return", from which it will be almost impossible to restore it! Very soon, Russia will fully feel the consequences of the huge demographic pit of the 90s. The number of women of childbearing age from 20 to 29 years, who account for 2/3 of the births of children, will approximately decrease by almost 2 times. Even today in Russia, the average fertility rate is noticeably lower than necessary for the simple maintenance of the population: 1.7 children per woman, with the necessary - 2.1.

The frequency of infertility in Russia exceeds a critical level, creating a threatening demographic situation.Infertile marriage is not only a medical, but also a social problem. 15% of married couples are treated for infertility. The share of the male factor among all cases of infertile marriages reaches 50%. And there is no downward trend in this figure yet.

Risk factors for infertility are primarily sexually transmitted infections and associated inflammation of the prostate gland. Infections are not always recognized in time, the man does not receive the necessary qualified treatment.

Unfortunately, an increase in the incidence of prostatitis is currently being noted. And this is because there is more and more freedom of morals, and less and less hygienic knowledge. Moral promiscuity leads to the fact that sooner or later a man will receive a bouquet of diseases and subsequently pass them on to his wife. Colpitis, cystitis, adnexitis - many diseases of women are often associated with infections that were brought to them by their husband or, as it is now customary to say, a friend, partner. Infectious and inflammatory diseases acquired in youth, which a man transmits to a woman, create problems with carrying a child. The herpes virus causes deformities in the fetus, and chlamydia infection is a common cause of miscarriage

In second place is the varicose veins of the testicle – varicocele. Varicocele is a common disease. It occurs in about one in ten teenagers after the age of 14. Timely diagnosis and surgical treatment can prevent infertility.

Recently, endocrine and vascular disorders have played an important role among the causes of male infertility. And this, first of all, depends on the lifestyle. In particular, proper nutrition plays a huge role in maintaining a man's ability to conceive a child. Modern man does not eat a variety of foods, there are no vegetables and fruits in the diet, he uses a lot of so-called urbanized products - canned, refined, containing artificial chemically synthesized additives, preservatives, genetically modified ingredients. Insufficient physical activity – physical inactivity and poor nutrition lead to overweight and, subsequently, metabolic syndrome. The percentage of visceral (internal) fat enveloping the organs prevails over muscle and connective tissue, the level of the hormone testosterone drops.

An important factor of infertility is the rhythm of men's life, the wrong work and rest regime.  High levels of stress lead to the production of stress hormones and metabolic disorders. Alcohol abuse, smoking, drug addiction, occupational hazards (ionizing radiation, electromagnetic radiation, elevated temperature, contact with aniline dyes, pesticides, heavy metals), taking anabolic steroids, frequent thermal procedures (bath), prolonged or frequent cycling are factors leading to infertility.

Treatment of male infertility is not always effective. Only in 20% of cases it is possible to achieve positive results (self-conception) after treatment with a urologist.  In 30% of cases, IVF helps. 50% of infertile married couples remain infertile.
