What is the reason for your failures, because you are trying your best to help?

If you have never smoked, it is very difficult, or even impossible, to understand the effect of nicotine addiction. Any smoker can't stand talking about the dangers of smoking and that it's time to quit it more than anything else. So, the reasons for your failures are quite clear, it is worth eliminating these "gaps", and, having prepared, go to fight the nicotine enemy, which devours your loved one. To begin with, you should once and for all forget about direct requests or even threats like: "Quit smoking!", they will not cause anything but irritation.

The best thing in this case is to really quit smoking, honestly and openly. The child will appreciate your action, believe that it is really harmful, and most importantly, will not take a cigarette in his mouth anymore.

So, as we noted earlier, empty talk about the dangers of smoking and even tearful pleas to quit smoking will not lead to anything. What is your main argument against smoking-harm to health? You kindly remind the smoker that he has shortness of breath, that you are tired of the unpleasant smell of tobacco, that he coughs and snores endlessly in his sleep.

It would seem that there are good reasons to quit smoking? But those who smoke know about all their problems, they have come to terms with them, they live with them. And when you remind your husband, for example, that he has bad breath, you take a step back, not forward. The person is annoyed, you have offended him. He won't listen to you, but to calm down... he'll smoke a cigarette.

Imagine a girl who is on a diet and suddenly decides to eat a cake. She knows she can't, and the forbidden fruit is even more desirable. So it will be with the smoker, the more you scold smoking, the more pleasure he will get from such a forbidden cigarette. So, first of all, stop lecturing about the dangers of smoking!

In no case should smokers be taken for "weak", reproached for lack of willpower or irresponsibility. People who are addicted to the drug nicotine have a disease called drug addiction.

Do not argue that the smoker will get rid of the habit, do not blame him for weak willpower, irresponsible attitude to his health. Remember, this is a disease, is it worth training willpower in this case? You wouldn't think of taking crutches away from a man with a broken leg, would you? So with smokers, you can not act abruptly, taking away their "support" - a cigarette. Moreover, the statistics in such cases are sad: only 3% of smokers with experience can abruptly quit smoking and not remember about cigarettes for at least a year. And the vast majority start smoking within a few days, but not because they have weak willpower.

Do not believe in the power of miracle drugs, ointments, creams, pills and patches! Drug addiction is a psychological addiction. Not biological! No medicine can cure him of this disease until he consciously gives up smoking. Most newfangled tools, such as chewing gum or magnets — are a waste of money. They turn out to be completely useless or even harmful to health!

First of all, the decision to part with a cigarette should be made by the smoker himself. Your task is to push him to such a decision. Instead of bullying, arguing, and blackmailing, it is much more effective to make a person think about their problem unwittingly. Conduct a conversation with him, ask such questions, the answers to which you know yourself. These questions should help trigger the smoker's consciousness. For example, he often coughs, and you instead of moralizing, show love and care. "As I'm concerned about your cough, I'm so worried, maybe it's something serious. Should I see a doctor?»

"Does smoking really bring such pleasure, then I'll try it? Let's smoke with you together! " - after such a phrase, your husband will definitely think about the fight against smoking.

So, your task is not to offend the smoker, but to show him love and participation. Remember that these are people who themselves suffer from their own disease, which can only be cured by professionals. And only a close person can push the smoker to realize the problem and turn to specialists.
