Purines (lactic acid derivatives) and uric acid salts begin to be deposited in some tissues. Most often, the joints and kidneys suffer.
Why is this happening? Let's turn to history. Gout has been known since the time of Hippocrates. Since then, gout has been called the "disease of kings". All because only kings and aristocrats could afford to eat a lot of meat, legumes, confectionery, generously washed down with wine or beer.
Ordinary people could not afford such a diet. Hence the conclusion — gout occurs against the background of food excesses, namely:
- obesity,
- alcohol abuse,
- abuse of products rich in purines (meat, legumes),
- sedentary lifestyle.
Also, a predisposing factor may be a hereditary violation of the metabolic processes of uric acid.
Gout is more susceptible to men after 35 years, women account for 1-2% of all cases.
There are 2 types of gout — gouty arthritis and gouty kidney damage.
With gouty arthritis, the first sign may be a lesion of the big toe, gradually other joints are involved in the process.
Symptoms: redness, swelling, acute pain both when walking and at rest. Pain can occur suddenly, at night or in the morning. The damage to the joints is asymmetrical.
Gouty arthritis is characterized by seizures. The more the disease progresses, the longer the attack lasts.
Diagnosis of gouty arthritis: clinical picture, general blood and urine tests, biochemical blood analysis.
If gout becomes chronic (5-7 years from the beginning of the disease), it can affect the kidneys. This is manifested by renal colic, pain in the lower back, the deposition of sand and kidney stones. If left untreated, gouty kidney damage can lead to the development of urolithiasis and kidney failure.
Treatment of gout involves modifying the diet and following a diet with a limited number of products. Medical treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs is prescribed by a doctor.
