The Department of Health of the Lipetsk Region reports that the virology laboratory of the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Lipetsk Region in September 2019 conducted studies of clinical material submitted by medical organizations of the Lipetsk region from 150 patients.
The conducted studies in 5 age-social groups of the region's population revealed that the specific weight of seronegative viruses to the actual strains of influenza viruses in the 2019-2020 season: A (H1N1)pdm09 Brisbane - 46%, K A(H3N2)Kansas – 68.7%, toTo / Colorado (line B/Victoria/2/87) - 69.3%, to / Phuket(line B/Yamagata/16 / 88) - 89%.
The results obtained indicate a high probability of developing an influenza epidemic in the regiondue to viruses of types A(H3N2) and B, as well as the presence of a wide stratum of people with a high risk of developing severe forms of the disease, including death, due to the influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus.
According to the forecast of the National Influenza Center in Russia in the current season of 2019-2020, high activity of influenza A(H3N2) and influenza B (B/Victoria line) viruses is expected, which is confirmed by the data of the world influenza Virus Surveillance network (FluNet) on the influenza viruses currently prevailing in the circulation.
Thus, vaccination against influenza is a vital measure to ensure the epidemiological well-being of the population of the region. As the experience of the previous season showed, immunization coverage of more than 45% of the region's population, combined with a set of restrictive measures, is able to keep the incidence of influenza and ARVI at a non-epidemic level.
