2nd obstetric department

About the department:

The obstetric department plays a crucial role in the life of the perinatal center, and this is not surprising, because life is born here.

Every year we have about 1.5 thousand births, thousands of families have become parents within the walls of our perinatal center.

The second obstetric department of the LOPC includes 4 individual delivery rooms. Each delivery room is equipped with modern medical equipment for monitoring the condition of the woman in labor and the fetus and, if necessary, carrying out resuscitation measures in full. Delivery rooms are equipped with automatic fetal monitors for cardiac monitoring of the fetus, which allows you to monitor the nature of labor, the frequency and intensity of contractions, the condition of the child in childbirth. In addition, our maternity halls are equipped with TVs, Swedish walls, fitballs, individual bathrooms, anti-stress drawing sets, a film library, a music library for your comfortable stay.

In childbirth, we welcome the free behavior of the woman in labor. A woman can take a comfortable position for herself, sit or lie down on a fitball, listen to calm music, watch a feature film. If the birth is delayed, we make sure that our expectant mothers have strength. For this purpose, drinking and feeding in childbirth is allowed.

It is known that pain is almost an integral part of childbirth and the body of the woman in labor is able to overcome it fight after fight. However, when the patient has a low pain threshold or there are medical indications, anesthesiologists will not leave the woman in labor without attention and will choose a suitable method of anesthesia for her. Regional methods of anesthesia (long-term epidural, spinal, paravertebral anesthesia), as well as intravenous anesthetics are widely used.

In our department, vertical delivery is widely practiced, which is part of our concept of "for natural obstetrics", it is not a new-fangled technique, but a more physiological way to give birth to a child, which reduces the frequency of injuries, reduces obstetric aggression and improves the outcome of childbirth for both mother and baby.

All doctors of our department know the technique of conducting labor with a scar on the uterus, giving birth to twins and giving birth in the pelvic presentation, the technique of cesarean section. The staff of the department provides patients with the necessary medical care and psychological support, tries to ensure a soft and as comfortable as possible delivery.

In the Lipetsk Perinatal Center, family childbirth has been practiced for more than 20 years, when the father has the opportunity to attend the birth ( except for quarantine periods) and provide his wife with both moral support and help reduce pain, for example, with the help of breathing and massage techniques. The active participation of the spouse in childbirth creates an atmosphere of care, empathy, and confidence in a successful outcome. As soon as the baby is born, it is laid out on the mother's stomach , while the first, very important skin-to-skin contact occurs. After the end of the pulsation of the umbilical cord, the father can independently cut it, after which the baby is examined by a neonatologist and necessarily applies it to the mother's breast. Then the mother and child are transferred to the postpartum ward. All postpartum wards are designed for the joint stay of mother and baby.

In recent years, more and more often in the Lipetsk perinatal Center, premature babies are born, babies born a little earlier or much earlier than they should have been. This is due to the fact that patients with threatening preterm birth are sent to us from many maternity hospitals in the Lipetsk region. Preterm birth always requires special professionalism from the entire team that provides assistance to the mother and her premature baby. In our perinatal center, both planned and emergency cesarean section operations are performed. 24 hours a day, teams of experienced obstetricians-gynecologists, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, pediatric resuscitators, operating room nurses and anesthesiologists are ready for the birth of a wide variety of babies.

The postpartum department takes the baton from the maternity unit with honor and continues further monitoring and management of patients, provides care for women who have given birth and their babies until they are discharged home.

The department is designed for 30 beds. There are 4 superior rooms with a TV, a refrigerator, a comfortable chair, an individual bathroom, a kettle, a hair dryer, a set of dishes, and beautiful bed linen. Of these, two single, two double ( they have a common hall with a refrigerator and a shared bathroom) wards. All wards are organized for a cozy and comfortable stay of mother and child together. All wards without exception are equipped with a refrigerator, a changing table.

In 2003, our perinatal center was awarded the title of "Child – friendly Hospital". According to this title, the postpartum department actively promotes the "Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding", which are set out in the Joint WHO/UNICEF Declaration "Protecting, Supporting and Promoting Breastfeeding: the special role of maternity services" (1989).

In the department, daily conversations are held about the undeniable benefits of breastfeeding, the main aspects of successful lactation are studied and put into practice in accordance with an individual approach to each patient. In addition, we have the opportunity to show video materials that comprehensively and comprehensively cover the recommendations for the management of the postpartum period. A breast-feeding specialist is being consulted. If necessary, conversations and classes are conducted by a medical psychologist.

One of the tasks of managing the postpartum period is the prevention of purulent-septic complications in the mother and the newborn. The maternity hospital is monitored daily by a doctor and a midwife (complaints are registered, the general condition of the woman and child is assessed, pulse, blood pressure , body temperature is measured, the state of the uterus and mammary glands is monitored, ultrasound is performed). If there are indications, physiotherapy, consultations with related specialists, and additional examination are prescribed.

In addition, daily conversations are held about the hygiene of the postpartum period, compliance with the sanitary and epidemiological regime. At discharge, a conversation is held with the patients about the need for prolonged breastfeeding, about the benefits of breastfeeding for the prevention of diseases in women, and most importantly - the health of the newborn baby. Recommendations on the course of the late postpartum period and possible complications are also given.

In our perinatal center with maternity hospitals, therapeutic gymnastics (physical therapy) classes are held daily . For this purpose, a special set of exercises was developed specifically for women after childbirth, which allows you to successfully prevent the development of most postpartum complications, as well as to prevent functional inferiority of the pelvic floor and prolapse of the genitals at an older age. These exercises allow you to cope with the changes in the body that accompany pregnancy and childbirth, and contribute to the most rapid recovery of the woman's body.

The staff of the second obstetric department promotes the principles of naturalness and friendly individual attitude to each patient. We strive to ensure that every woman's postpartum period is the most beautiful, the most comfortable and the most physiological.

When you get to the obstetric department No. 2, do not doubt: you are in good hands!

After all, we believe that with the well-coordinated and consistent work of obstetricians-gynecologists, anesthesiologists-resuscitators and neonatologists, you can achieve the best results!
