On November 28, 2019, the Regional Scientific and Practical Conference "Topical issues of countering the spread of HIV infection in the Lipetsk region"was held in the conference hall of the Mercure Hotel. The conference is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Center for AIDS Prevention and Control in the Lipetsk region.

The participants of the event were the head of the Department of Organization of medical care for adults of the Health Department of the Lipetsk Region S. V. Koroteeva, the chief physician of the Regional Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS and Infectious Diseases A. N. Filatov, representatives of the Department of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being in the Lipetsk region, as well as leading researchers of the SNIO EP AIDS of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Central Research Institute of Epidemiology" of Rospotrebnadzor and the Federal State Educational Institution of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow).

The conference was also attended by infectious diseases doctors, health and public health organizers, internists, phthisiologists, neurologists, pulmonologists and epidemiologists of medical institutions in the region.

Within the framework of the scientific and practical conference, presentations were made by:

The Regional AIDS Control Center was established in the Lipetsk region in August 1989. From that moment until October 2017, the head of the Center was Lyudmila Kirillova-Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Knight of the Order of Friendship. Long-term work of Lyudmila Dmitrievna was embodied in the creation of a specialized service with a high level of material and technical equipment and performance indicators of the institution.

Currently, the Regional Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS and Infectious Diseases occupies one of the leading positions in the field of HIV prevention and the development of volunteerism. The institution includes a clinical and immunological laboratory with an annual volume of about 1 million studies, an outpatient department that receives more than 23,000 patients annually, as well as an epidemiological department.

Over 30 years of work, we have managed to significantly improve the level of medical care for patients with HIV infection, as well as to organize a team of employees of the Center, involving doctors of related specialties: epidemiologists, infectious disease specialists, narcologists, psychiatrists, obstetricians and gynecologists. In addition, the centralized laboratory service and new technologies of interactive activities with the younger generation have made the Center a unique institution for working with young people. Thanks to the efforts of the medical examination department, there has been a noticeable decrease in mortality and an improvement in the quality of life of patients with HIV in recent years.

The achievements and effective performance indicators of the Center are primarily the painstaking daily work of a close-knit team with a high level of qualification, which has been formed over many years. Within the walls of the institution, two main freelance specialists of the region, three excellent health workers, candidates of medical and biological sciences work. The long-term work of the staff of the institution allowed us to achieve the main thing: the level of HIV infection in the Lipetsk region today is one of the lowest in Russia.
